Winter is well & truly here: time for organic root vegetables, brassicas & citrus fruit to shine!
Here’s what to expect from the organic market.
Vegetables
Asian greens - Wholefoods House-Grown varieties of bok choy, pak choy
and choy sum.
Beetroot - Dynamic vege: boil, roast, grate or juice!
Broccoli
Brussel sprouts - From Kurrawong Organics, Bathurst.
Cabbage – Red, green and Savoy. Fantastic value from local grower in Dapto, near Wollongong.
Carrots - Try Roast Carrot Salad
Cauliflower – From Kurrawong Organics, Bathurst.
Celery
Fennel – Wholefoods House-Grown.
Leek – Wholefoods House-Grown
Lettuce – Wholefoods House-Grown Cos lettuces.
Onions
Parsnip – Try Pea & Parsnip Soup
Potatoes
Pumpkin - Good value Jap and butternut. Try Pumpkin, Coconut & Coriander Soup
Radicchio
Shallots - Wholefoods House-Grown; picked young for sweet delicate flavour.

Sweet potato - Try it in Red Lentil Daal

Apples - Beautiful, crisp premium fruit from Forest Orchards in S.A.
Translucent patches in the flesh indicate natural sugars, meaning the
apples have ripened on the tree. Try Winter Fruit Compote
Avocadoes - Creamy Hass variety. Try Miso, Avocado & Egg Toasts
Bananas – Market price remains high.

Lemons - Abundant supply. Look out for Meyer Lemons, an extremely sweet and juicy variety thought to be crossed with the mandarin.
Mandarins – Everyone’s favourite variety, Imperials, are startening to come in:
expect juicy sweet flesh, loose skin and few seeds.
Oranges - Amazing Navels from Colo River (Hawkesbury region) are in!
Pears – Buerre Bosc and Packhams. Try Poached Pears with Honey & Cinnamon
